News : Russia-Georgia Games embrace




Their nations are on the brink of war, but Georgia's Nino Salukvadze and Russia's Natalia Paderina put down their Olympic pistols after medaling and embraced Sunday in Beijing.

After putting down her pistol on her final shot, she wiped tears from her eyes and then embraced her Russian rival, a former teammate in the Soviet Union, telling Reuters the move was to stop the conflict that has claimed as many as 2,000 lives.
