News : Pick up a penguin orphan

Abandoned chicks are saved from starvation on islands off the coast of South Africa.

The baby African penguins have been rescued by volunteers from islands around the Western Cape to be hand reared and later released back to their home colonies.

They eat only a few types of fish whose numbers are falling, partly because of natural conditions and possibly because of commercial fishing.
