News : Stuczynski speaks out on rivalry
U.S. pole vaulter Jennifer Stuczynski reacted on Tuesday (August 19) in Beijing to Russian rival and Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva's claim to have put the American in her place, after breaking the women's pole vaulting world record on Monday (August 18).
Isinbayeva made the remark as a riposte to Stuczynski's reported comments that she was going to "kick Russian butt."
Isinbayeva broke her own world record on Monday (August 18) by soaring 5.05 metres, despite already being assured of a gold medal, while Stuczynski's best effort of 4.80 metres saw her claim silver.
Stuczynski is intent on breaking the Russian's new world record and thinks the fact that she will go into future competions as the underdog could work in her favour.
